Born Feb. 2, 1940, Preston died June 13, 2017, shortly after being diagnosed with ALS. A lifelong resident of Morris, Alabama, his home reflected his enthusiasm for beautiful flowers. Whether growing colorful flowers or a variety of vegetables, he was very happy planting, cultivating or enjoying the results of his labor. He was a passionate Alabama football fan-attending many games over the years and collecting memorabilia. His favorite travel destination was to the Gulf Coast of Florida and Alabama. Most Sunday nights would find him in Bible study at Liberty Baptist Church. His exemplary work ethic led to a career that spanned decades in the produce business first at Magic City and later Adams Bros.

Preceded in death by his wife Faye, he is survived by his son Daryl McCombs and grandson Griffin McCombs, both much loved, of Tampa, Florida. Also surviving are sisters Shirley Gillmore, Alexandria, Virginia; Pat Love (Dennis), Crestview, Florida; Lynn McCombs, Morris, Alabama; brothers Wayne McCombs, Gardendale, Alabama, and Gary McCombs (Julia), Birmingham, Alabama. A sincere thank-you to the staff at UAB NICU and Palliative Care for their skill and compassion. Also, heartfelt appreciation is extended to family, friends, neighbors and Liberty Baptist Church for the prayers, support and love during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Saturday, June 17, from 9:30 to 11:00 with service immediately following at Rideouts Funeral Home, Gardendale, AL., Willard Davis officiating. Interment will be at Liberty Minter Cemetery, Morris, Alabama.
