John P. Leonard, age 77 of Gardendale, AL passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017. John was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He was a devoted family man who always put everyone else's needs before himself. John served his country proudly as a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in the 1st Cavalry Division. He worked for U.S. Steel for over 30 years and was retired as the Senior Maintenance Foreman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul E....

John P. Leonard, age 77 of Gardendale, AL passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017. John was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He was a devoted family man who always put everyone else's needs before himself. John served his country proudly as a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in the 1st Cavalry Division. He worked for U.S. Steel for over 30 years and was retired as the Senior Maintenance Foreman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul E. and Annie "B" Leonard. John is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Ann Schroeder Leonard; a son, John Robert Leonard; his daughters, Joanne Goodmon (Roger) and Amy Leonard (Kyle Smith); brothers, William E. Leonard (Mouresa), Robert Leonard (Jane), and James Leonard (Debra); grandchildren, Cara Goodmon Royster (Brandon), April Goodmon (Heath Blasingame), Shauna Graves (Ryan), Holly Goodmon (John Spinoso), Ryan Leonard (Tiffany), Denisa LaVecchia, Justin Leonard, and Toni LaVecchia; great-grandchildren, Annie Gabrielle Goodmon, Austin Reed, Tyler Reed, Riley Graves, Kody LaVecchia, Zoey Graves, Hadleigh Leonard, and Mason Leonard; a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel with visitation from 11 AM until Chapel service time at 1 PM. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
